In this unique episode, we are celebrating two significant milestones - the 50th episode of the podcast and the presence of a very special guest, Sam! Sam is not only my wife, but also a fellow director at MBS Accountants, and she's here to share some insights into our dynamic as business and life partners.
Balancing Business and Home Life
Starting a business together and maintaining a harmonious personal life might seem like a daunting task, and it is true that we can't completely separate the two. However, over the years, we have learned to strike a balance between the two worlds. Although disagreements are natural, we make a conscious effort to keep them separate and prioritise family time as well.
To achieve this, we've designated Fridays as strategic planning days to discuss business matters, ensuring that our family time remains untouched by work discussions.
Complementary Roles and Teamwork
In our company, we both have distinct roles that complement each other perfectly. Sam works diligently behind the scenes, ensuring the smooth functioning of the organisation, while I take on the role of business development, networking, and ideation.
Finding our individual strengths and acknowledging our differences has been crucial to making our partnership successful. Early on, we did face challenges as we navigated our roles, but after reading a book called "Rocket Fuel," we gained a deeper understanding of each other's perspectives and found a better way to utilise our strengths.
Building a Team
Hiring and managing a team can be a difficult process, and like many business owners, we had our fair share of struggles with it too. However, finding the right people who align with our company's vision has significantly contributed to our success.
Having a team allows us to focus on strategic planning and envisioning the company's growth. It has also allowed us to strike a balance between our personal and professional lives and pursue our individual passions while being confident that the business is in good hands.
Challenges and Rewards of Working Together
Working with a life partner can be challenging, but it also has its unique rewards. While we have different personas at work and at home, we've learned to appreciate and respect each other's personalities and find common ground. Picking our battles, maintaining open communication, and understanding each other's needs have been instrumental in making this dual partnership successful.
We hope that this coming episodes with Sam will provide our listeners with a deeper understanding of our business dynamics and offer valuable insights that can be applied to their own entrepreneurial journeys.
So, stay tuned as we embark on this new journey together, sharing the highs, lows, and everything in between, as we continue to build and grow our business as partners in life and work.
Thank you for being a part of our journey!
